Designed to turn your smart device into a virtual funfair ride, VR Roller Coaster makes use of three-dimensional virtual reality technology. Using images from a realistic virtual roller coaster, the software functions with any mobile stereoscopic headset device so long as it has an integrated accelerometer, such as Google Cardboard VR.
Ups and Downs
Although VR Roller Coaster will allow anyone who downloads it to sense some of the fear and thrills of the ride depicted, it is not like enjoying a coaster for real. Having said that, VR Roller Coaster does a good job of capturing what the experience would be like without having to travel to a theme park or experience any long queuing times. There is a true 360 degree image that responds to all of your head's movements. Because the roller coaster in front of your eyes is not real, some very exciting turns and loops can be included which might never be made in the real world. The sky and backgrounds are just as realistic-looking as the roller coaster itself.
VR Roller Coaster is ideally suited to people who already enjoy experiences in a virtual reality set up. The twisting and turning nature of a roller coaster is really suited to this medium, but for anyone who is not a die-hard fan of coasters, it is likely to be little more than a novelty.
